Hey doc! Here’s a little something to get you thinking.
I want you to take a minute and look back over your career. You’ll notice that it tells a story of opportunities pursued and opportunities missed. It tells a story of advice taken and advice ignored.
Now, ask yourself these two questions…
1. “Why did you choose certain paths and not others?”
And…
2. “What was it that determined which advice and who’s advice you should follow?”
You may find yourself scratching your head and saying, “hmmmmmm…good question?”
Well, whether you can answer those questions or not, one thing’s for sure. Advice given at a time when you’re receptive can change your entire career … but only if you’re listening.
I did some research recently to find out what type of advice people have taken that made a major impact on their career In other words, what could be considered the “Best Business Advice of All Time” ?
Well, after many long hours of research…I have come up with the best of the best!!
As for the criteria, I looked for advice that I believed would be most helpful to chiropractors. I tried to avoid the obvious stuff we’ve all heard a thousand times, and also eliminated public quotes, since this is about personal advice, not pithy quotes from famous people.
Here’s my top ten!!
- “My needs don’t motivate anyone.”
- “Once you’re afraid to take a risk, you may as well call it a game and give up.”
- “You make choices based on what you believe in or what you fear. Guess which one makes you stronger?”
- “Relationships come first, business will always follow.”
- “Be like water – it will find its way no matter how big an obstacle is placed in front of it.”
- “Courage is fear that has said its prayers.”
- “Don’t believe your own press.”
- “Happiness is not what you get out of life but what you make of it.”
- “Life is not fair, don’t expect it to be.”
- “Only through failure and pain do you really grow. So don’t be afraid to take risks, make mistakes and fail … just make different ones each time.”
I would suggest you write these down and hang them somewhere that will allow you to look at them daily. …because this is the Advice of Champions!
In the mean time,
Keep Saving Lives!
Chris

Awesome advice, Chris. Thanks for the post. My favorites are:
#2. Just wrote this one on my patient bathroom mirror. “To risk nothing is to risk everything.”
#5. Bruce Lee said in one of his most famous interviews, “Be like water, my friend.” He developed a fighting style called Jeet Kune Do which was unlike any of the “rigid” fighting styles that came before it. The point was to be able to adapt to the situation at hand. He was referring to his fighting style, but also to the bigger picture philosophically.
#10. As Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus says, “Now get out there and make mistakes, class!” … Gotta be the parent of a 6 year old to get that one. LOL.
